FIRST PERFORMANCES
February 22, 2023
in Ottawa City
One of our first performances can be considered the one that took place on February 22, 2023, in Ottawa City. At that time, we were still a small group of children, which we called the Ukrainian Children's Ensemble. We organised a flash mob during a meeting of the Ottawa City Council, where issues regarding support for Ukraine during the war were being discussed. Mark Satcliffe, the Mayor of Ottawa, gave a speech mentioning the tragic anniversary of one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and also spoke about our performance that day. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada, Mrs. Yulia Hnativ, also gave a speech during the meeting.
Indeed, after this performance, the idea of creating a full-fledged Ukrainian Children's Choir in the city of Ottawa emerged. The success and impact of the flash mob during the meeting of the Ottawa City Council inspired the organisers and participants to further promote Ukrainian culture and music through this children's choir. This new choir serves as a powerful platform to showcase talented children through the power of music, fostering creativity, and preserving Ukrainian culture. The enthusiasm and dedication of the children involved in the initial flash mob performance have laid the foundation for a more formal and organised musical group like the Ukrainian Children's Choir of Ottawa."
